Wow that's almost exactly how I structured the payout at Temple 5 years ago. It was the most fair way I could think of to do it, and it guaranteed that our bracket program could at least pay for itself no matter how many cars we had.  I tried to convince Hutch to do the same thing a couple of years ago, but to no avail.  Anyway, good to see PV using this method.  I could never figure out why other tracks wouldn't consider this.

lt looks pretty good to me, too.  I like the fact that you know what your racing for before the racing begins.

Exactly.  I went through a lot of trial and error, because it's impossible to guarantee payouts and make money and it's also hard for racers not to know what they are racing for.  This was the best solution I could come up with.  If you wanted to know what the payout was, you could go to tech before first round and find out how many cars were entered and then look at the payout scale posted there to find out what the purse was going to be.

This thread brought up some memories.  I had lost all of my original payout information that we did back then, and I only had a rough memory of it.  Then I stumbled across an archive of the track website that had the original proposal for the new payout.  Pretty cool actually when I look back on it, it's hard to believe it's been 5 years.  I think if I were to do it over again, I'd expand the payout quite a bit.

Greg why don't more tracks have a posted payout for a set amount of cars? I've been wanting to ask this on DRR to see what the general consenses is from track owners and operators. Maybe its just LR that has never done that. LOL  Except when you had it. I can't believe its been 5 years either. I didn't even know who you were when you bought the track but you and Peggy were very nice and ran a great program. (Now since I've kissed up nicely, don't kill me every time we meet this year! Wink hahha)

Don't worry, I'll take it easy on you. LOL  Yeah I don't know why tracks don't do that.  The thing is, it's essentially the same thing as saying there's a 32 car minimum for a $1,000 payout, or whatever, but it comes across as being a lot more racer friendly.  I mean the cut in payout without 32 cars, is probably going to be pretty close to being the same anyway it's just that you are telling them what the cut is going to be so there's no question about it.

However, the good part about it is, you aren't limiting the upper end of the payout.  So that way racers know they may have a chance at actually racing for $1,500 or even $2,000 if the car count is there for the same entry.
